We need people to be safe, so all inexperienced hirers will need some training, preferably on our two day practical course but possibly starting at home with our easy to use distance learning package hosted by Tim West of the BBC’s ‘Great Canal Journeys’. The distance learning package leads onto a period of coaching at the start of your hire where a Bruce skipper will join you for the first day or two.
Group leaders, skippers and crew completing our training have repeatedly told us how useful and enjoyable it was: time well spent!
And you can extend the value of your training by inviting your crew and passengers to view the distance learning programme – it doesn’t take long and, as Tim West says, helps everyone to enjoy their time on the canal.
If you have some experience then the distance learning programme will help you refresh your knowledge.
By joining either training programme you will learn how to:
- Steer a canal boat correctly
- Look after it, and your passengers, in all conditions
- Use a lock
- Choose your crew and prepare them well
- Make sure your passengers are safe and enjoy their cruise
… and many other vital tips.
